TagMihari Privacy Policy
This policy explains how KNights ("we") handles information in the Android app "TagMihari" ("the app"). The app helps you find item trackers, such as AirTags, that may have been placed on your belongings or around you without your knowledge.
1. Overview
- The app has no user accounts, and we do not run any servers.
- Everything the app handles — records of trackers it has seen and your location — is processed and stored only on your device. It is never sent to us or to any third-party server.
- We do not collect personal information such as your name, email address or phone number. If you e-mail us, we use your e-mail address and message only to answer you, and do not give them to third parties except where required by law.
2. Information stored on your device
While watching is on, the app stores the following on your device:
- Records of item trackers received nearby: the tracker type, the identifier the tracker broadcasts (a random value that changes periodically), whether it is separated from its owner, its approximate battery level, the time it was received and its signal strength
- Your device's location (latitude, longitude and accuracy) when a tracker was received
- Alert status and the actions you chose ("I found it and dealt with it", "Keep watching", "Register as a safe tag", etc.)
- Characteristics of trackers you registered as safe, and your settings
This information is used only to judge whether a tracker is moving with you or has stayed for days at places you usually are. Records are deleted automatically after 180 days. You can delete everything at any time in the app's settings, and uninstalling the app removes it. It is excluded from cloud backups such as Google Drive and from device-to-device data transfer.
Tracker identifiers are values contained in the radio signals the trackers broadcast. The app cannot and does not find out who owns a tracker.
3. Exporting records
Only when you choose "Export records" does the app turn your records (times, map links to places, tracker types, etc.) into text and hand it to Android's share screen. You choose where it goes (e-mail, notes, messages, etc.). We never receive it. This is intended for consulting the police or others.
4. Permissions
- Nearby devices (Bluetooth): to receive signals from nearby item trackers, and to connect to a tracker when you choose to try playing a sound on it or to read information from it.
- Location (precise): to record where trackers were received and judge whether a tracker is moving with you. While watching is on, location is used even when the app is closed (while the "Watching" notification is shown). Location never leaves your device.
- Notifications: to tell you when a suspicious tracker is found, when the free trial ends, and when watching has stopped.
- Run at startup: to tell you that watching stopped after your phone restarted, and to reschedule free-trial reminders.
5. Third-party services
- Google Play Billing: monthly and one-time purchases are processed by Google. We never receive payment information. The app checks on your device whether a purchase is valid.
- Advertising: the app shows no ads.
- Analytics: the app uses no analytics or crash-reporting services.
Google Play Billing handles information under the Google Privacy Policy.
6. Children
The app is not directed at children.
7. Changes
If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page.
